It Ain't Over Till It's Over (Lenny Kravitz) Bass Cover

Listening to Questlove's amazing podcast Questlove Supreme recently, I was reminded of how much Lenny Kravitz's music meant to me as a young musician. I don't remember much from the 70s, but I do remember when the 70s made a comeback in the 90s, and retro sounds and looks were suddenly back in fashion.

Lenny Kravitz was one of the main drivers of the music side of this trend, having burst onto the scene in 1989 with his debut Let Love Rule. Bone dry and brimming with analog warmth, it set the tone for so much retro inspired music to come.

Kravitz's real breakthrough hit was this song. And it was probably the first one of his songs I heard, watching MTV day and night when the song was bounding up the charts.

I got out the most 70s shirt and hat I own, and got to work. Lenny plays all of the instruments himself, and as evidenced on the bridge, is not terribly focused on the details. But the track has an undeniable groove, and a great feel that was fun to try and match.

Recorded at home with my 1974 Precision and my Avalon U5.

Enjoy!
