A Dialogue on the Legacy of the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference and Its Relevance Today
Co-organized by Faculty of Law, Universitas Padjadjaran and Focus on the Global South

In 1955, the city of Bandung hosted a historic gathering of leaders from 29 Asian and African countries—the first large-scale meeting of its kind, uniting newly independent and still-colonized nations around a shared vision of justice, sovereignty, and solidarity. The Asia-Africa Conference (Konferensi Asia Afrika) laid the groundwork for the Non-Aligned Movement and marked a pivotal moment in the global decolonization movement.

Seventy years later, the spirit of Bandung remains vital. As global inequality, occupation, and authoritarianism persist, youth and student movements across Asia and Africa continue to challenge dominant systems of power. Bandung’s legacy lives on in today’s struggles for self-determination, international justice, and people-centered governance.
