During a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on July 24, former special counsel Robert Mueller faced a series of questions about whether he knew that some members of his team had unfavorable views about President Donald Trump and had donated to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Mueller responded: “We strove to hire those individuals that could do the job. I have been in this business for almost 25 years, and in those 25 years I have not had occasion once to ask somebody about their political affiliation. It is not done. What I care about is the capability of the individual to do the job and do the job quickly and seriously and with integrity.” Rep. Kelly Armstrong, R-N.D., said Mueller’s vouching for his team was not enough and that he should have known that any appearance of political bias could be harmful to his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
