The First by Edward W. Ludwig -Vintage Science Fiction Short Story Audiobook Human voice

Jeffrey Simon looked out of his window at the massive parade in honor of Everson, the first man that was to go to the Moon. Only, Everson was not the first man to go to the moon, it was Simon twenty years earlier. In fact, hundreds has already been to the moon. Only, it had been a secret, and everyone was brainwashed to forget. But Simon remembered, and he had tangible proof...the problem was to get anyone to listen to him!

Edward W. Ludwig (1920-1990) published a score or so SF short stories and a lone novel from the 1950 up until the 1980s. Apparently, his day job was as an editor of some sort. I do not really know more about him.
He is not to be confused with Edward I. Ludwig, the contemporary film director.
