Watch us transform our yard to a native garden sanctuary! 🐦🐿️ 🐝

Hi friends, we finally finished a native garden sanctuary project that we’ve been working on for a year! 😃

It all started when we were watching so many of the trees come down in our neighborhood, which was a bit soul-crushing, to be honest. So we decided to see what we can do in our own yard to foster a healthy eco-system, which isn’t only good for the birds, the bees, and other wildlife, but it’s good for us! 👏🏽

The healthier our ecosystem, the better we all breathe, the more nutritious our food (pollinators!), and the lesser impact we see from climate change. 🌏

Planting native plants to your state or region can foster that ecosystem. It may not seem like much, but individually we can all make a big impact! 💪🏽

Healthier ecosystems from planting native plants bring:
🤖 Clean air (less asthma and other lunch conditions)
💨 Less climate impacts leading to severe weather
☀️ Slower global rising temps
🍓More food from more pollinators
🍒More nutritious foods from healthier soils
💦 Water conservation (native plants require much less water to thrive)
🐦 Food and shelter to wildlife

We did ours in baby steps…last year we tackled our front yard and this year we pulled up half the sod in our backyard. It was definitely a project! We had to take our time because it can be labor intensive (hey there, epsom salt baths 👋🏽) and, of course, a bit of an investment from purchasing new plants. But if you can do it, trust me, it’s worth it! We actually saved a bit by finding roadside yard art or looking on our Buy Nothing Facebook Group.

It’s now become our full time jobs watching the plants grow and wildlife visit. 🤣

We are beyond grateful for the guidance of Beech Hollow Farms and Birds Georgia in helping us plan our garden and become a Certified Wildlife Sanctuary. Friends, if you’re interested in this, look online to see if you have a local native garden center and start asking them questions about what to plant in your yard!
