Disney has released an official sequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas, but the medium might not have been what fans were hoping for. Disney Publishing managed to surprise them by letting them know that it would in fact be a novel. However that's not the only thing fuelling the Nightmare Before Christmas sequel speculation, recently director Henry Selick commented on the possibility of making more movies in the universe.

The Nightmare Before Christmas 2 (in some countries Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 2 or Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas 2) is an upcoming 3D dark fantasycomputer-animatedd/stop motion hybrid musical film based on the video game adaption of the same name. It is the sequel of the 1993 film, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and was created and produced by film directors Tim Burton and Henry Selick. The film will be produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Tim Burton Productions and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The will be released on October 25, 2019.

In February 2019, it was reported that a new Nightmare Before Christmas film was in the works with Disney considering either a stop-motion sequel or live-action remake. In October 2019, Chris Sarandon expressed interest on reprising his role as Jack Skellington if a sequel film ever materializes.

On February 22, 2021, it was announced by Disney Publishing that a sequel was being given to the 1993 film in the form of a young adult novel. It will be written by Shea Ernshaw and features Sally as the main character and be told through her point-of-view, with events taking place after the film.
