Should you train with no rest days between workouts or can you make better gains by spacing out your training days? One of the most common questions I get about my Naturally Intense High Intensity Training protocols revolves around rest days. Namely what works best for gaining muscle, increasing strength and does workout spacing affect weight loss? It's an intriguing question and I initially believed that it was canon law that all of my personal training clients have at least one day of rest between workouts and that you should not workout three days in row. As I steadfastly believed that having a rest day between workouts would lead to greater overall results.

That being said, from the very beginning, many of my clients were not able to schedule their training with one rest day between workouts. And I initially believed they would experience a decrease in training performance and overall results.

But one of the best parts of the journey as a trainer is how often initial musings can be completely wrong. Always the analyst, I kept meticulous notes of all of my clients workouts and results over a 15 year period. And surprisingly, the data kept showing no long term differences in results from training consecutive days versus training with a rest day in between. didn't make any differences long term. As long as with their high intensity training, workout frequency allowed for a full 6-7 days or rest between training muscle groups.
