Despite their origins as bandits, the party continued to make progress in investigating the murder and accumulating wealth. Alpheus was confused about how they had become detectives. During their search, they stumbled upon Lyderic, the son of Broker Hovendorp, who was being sold into slavery to pay off his debt. Lyderic pleaded with the party to rescue him and Perenal was moved by his plight, convincing the party to help. Fortunately, Lyderic proved to be a skilled swordsman with advanced training from his noble upbringing, and he was able to contribute to the party with his superior abilities (being 2 levels higher than the party).
