Is It Really Diabetic Neuropathy? The Critical Vascular Check Most Doctors Skip - Dr. Thomas Hodgkiss

In this clip from our What's Up Doc series, Dr. Thomas Hodgkiss reveals a common misdiagnosis pattern that could be costing patients their limbs: assuming pain is "just diabetic neuropathy" without checking blood flow.

"It's amazing how everybody [says] 'I've got diabetic neuropathy, there's nothing I can do about it'," explains Dr. Hodgkiss. "And then the next question is: has anybody looked at your blood flow?"

Dr. Hodgkiss emphasizes the importance of vascular evaluation with TBI (toe-brachial index) or ABI (ankle-brachial index) tests before accepting a neuropathy diagnosis, especially in patients with risk factors like smoking history or heart disease.
