Becoming the Wind
- for shakuhachi and cello

Composed JunYi Chow

Christopher Yohmei Blasdel, shakuhachi
JunYi Chow, cello

Becoming the Wind aims to express a transcendent state of mind, symbolizing the freedom of merging oneself into the wind and experiencing the liberty of going with it. Another interpretation is akin to the famous line from Tao Yuanming's Returning to the Countryside and Living Off the Land (Part Four): "Life is like an illusion, ultimately returning to emptiness," emphasizing the philosophical notion that life is fleeting and ultimately leads to nothingness.

This composition, through its fluid and diverse musical forms, weaves between shakuhachi and cello, ultimately achieving a profound sense of ethereality. Transitioning from gentle melodies to tranquil musical notes, it paints a musical journey that leads the listener to experience deep emotions and contemplation.
