Tony Savage shared about his breast cancer diagnosis with Rome Madison during My Faulty Gene's 10/2/2025 hereditary cancer educational event in Tyler, Texas.

This former defensive tackle for Washington State and the San Diego Chargers opens up about how the discipline he learned through sports helped him in face an unexpected Stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis which required a mastectomy, chemo and radiation.

Tony's talk at My Faulty Gene's event was timely, as it fell during both National Hereditary Cancer Week and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While in treatment, Tony tested positive for a BRCA2 gene mutation--something that put him at an increased risk of breast and other cancers.

We appreciate Tony's willingness to share his very private story publicly, and to encourage men to understand the importance of genetic testing when there is a family history of cancer. Knowledge is power!
