An Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Wangjom Thongdok, alleges she was detained and harassed by Chinese immigration officials at Shanghai Pudong Airport during a transit from London to Japan on November 21. Pema claims that officers refused to recognise her Indian passport because it listed Arunachal Pradesh as her place of birth, telling her, “Arunachal Pradesh is part of China.”

She called the incident a “direct insult to India’s sovereignty” and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian authorities to hold China accountable, ensure compensation, and prevent future discrimination against Indians from Arunachal Pradesh abroad.
