We are delighted to welcome Academy Award-winner Jane Campion back to the BFI London Film Festival, after a twelve year absence from feature filmmaking, to discuss her new drama, the dark and captivating The Power of the Dog.

Campion began her career as a short filmmaker, before making her feature debut with Sweetie (1989), which screened in Competition at Cannes. Her second film, An Angel at My Table (1990) received awards at both the Venice and Toronto film festivals. In 1993, she became the first female filmmaker to win the Palme d'Or and the second woman to be nominated for Best Director for The Piano. The film also won Oscars for Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. A defining work in the history of women's filmmaking, The Piano was also voted the best film directed by a woman in a 2019 BBC Culture poll. Campion has directed a variety of film work across genres, including the cult erotic thriller In the Cut (2003), and the John Keats biopic Bright Star (2009). In 2013, she created, wrote and directed the critically acclaimed TV series Top of the Lake, starring Elizabeth Moss and Holly Hunter. A second series followed in 2017.
