Division :
Division is sharing or grouping things equally. It helps us find out how many groups we can make or how many things go in each group.
Example 1: Sharing Cookies
Imagine you have 10 cookies and 5 friends. You want to share them equally.
👉 You give 1 cookie to each friend, then another, until all are gone.
👉 Each friend gets 2 cookies because 10 ÷ 5 = 2.
Example 2: Making Groups
You have 12 apples and want to put them in baskets, with 3 apples in each basket.
👉 How many baskets do you need?
👉 You count: 3, 6, 9, 12 → That’s 4 baskets because 12 ÷ 3 = 4.
Division Terms
• Dividend – The big number (total things you start with)
• Divisor – The number you divide by (how many groups or in each group)
• Quotient – The answer
Example:
👉 15 ÷ 3 = 5
👉 15 (dividend) ÷ 3 (divisor) = 5 (quotient)
