2. SOUNDBITE (English) Takehiro Funakoshi, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director-General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau:
"The center of our trilateral cooperation is North Korea. North Korea is continuing or even accelerating its nuclear and missile activities. With a looming possibility of further provocation including another nuclear test. Today we will discuss in depth how we will respond to various situations in a resolute manner. We are also working together to enhance regional deterrence and in this regard, I welcome trilateral missile defense exercise conducted last month."

"We are preparing for all contingencies in close coordination with our Japan and South Korea allies and we are prepared to make short and long-term adjustments to our military posture in responding to the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) provocation. We are committed to both defense and deterrence to protect our allies in the region."
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Kim Gunn, South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs  Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs:
"We will respond swiftly and decisively against any provocation by North Korea. Today we will share our assessment on the prospect of further provocations by North Korea and discuss ways to come up with a firm and united (inaudible)... We seek to further strengthen our coordination with the international community in urging Pyongyang to cease its unlawful and destabilising activities."

"Japan values and appreciates that our three countries share basic policy on North Korea including goal towards the complete denuclearization of North Korea. Today I look forward to discussing how to enhance regional deterrence including trilateral security cooperation, how to work together as a united front and how we can coordinate our policies towards dialogue with North Korea."

"We also have serious concerns over North Korea's actions that are in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions. I look forward to discussing with you today how we can effectively tackle this challenge and ensure full implementation of the international sanctions."

"Our bottom line has not changed. Our goal remains a complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. We remain committed to seeking dialogue with the DPRK and are prepared to meet without pre-conditions. The US places great importance our trilateral coordination and we continue to cooperate closely on all levels as we together, shared goal of denuclearisation."

STORYLINE:
A trilateral meeting between Japan, the US. and South Korea took place in Tokyo on Wednesday to address ways to combat further provocation by North Korea.
