Early Metal bands like Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, and Van Halen pushed the boundaries of Rock and Roll in the 1960s and 1970s, laying the groundwork for the mainstream crossover success of bands like Metallica and Megadeth in the 1980s. These musicians sought new sounds and innovative instrumental techniques that have inspired generations of fans.
