In this video, I head deep into the Victorian High Country for 3 days to camp as a traditional mountaineer from over 100 years ago, inspired by the climbers and explorers of the late 1800s and early 1900s. These early pioneers braved the alpine snow with only wool, leather, and canvas, and I set out to recreate their journey using the same heritage gear.

Joined by Leigh from ‪@Peakoilcompany‬ we test a brand-new wooden frame pack that also converts into a chair, while climbing into the snowbound peaks above Bluff Hut. Along the way, I explore the kind of equipment these first mountaineers relied on, and reflect on Australia’s unique alpine culture that grew from their daring adventures.
