On July 22nd, 2024, Delray Beach Police officers responded to Target after Loss Prevention reported an active shoplifting incident involving two suspects described as a Black male and a White female. Store security advised officers that the suspects were repeat offenders who had entered the electronics section and began removing high-value items, including multiple external hard drives and Nintendo Switch controllers. Loss Prevention watched as the pair concealed the items, bypassed all points of sale, and exited the store. Officers stopped both suspects just outside the main entrance. A search revealed over $934 worth of merchandise, along with anti-shoplifting countermeasure tools used to defeat security devices. Both suspects were detained, read Miranda rights, and later provided confessions. They were charged with Grand Theft (Retail) and Possession of Anti-Shoplifting Device Countermeasures.
