If your reading isn’t tied to a goal… no wonder it keeps falling off your schedule.

Most people read pretty randomly. Whatever’s trending, whatever’s on the nightstand. It’s fun, but it’s hard to stay motivated when the book isn’t fixing any real problem you have.

Try this instead:
• Pick ONE goal for next year
• Choose ONE book that helps with that goal
Want a promotion? Read on leadership or communication.
Want to start a business? Read a business book.
Want more focus? Grab something on deep work or habits.

When a book is directly connected to something you care about, you’re way more likely to finish it — and actually use it.

Quick exercise: write down one thing you want to change in 2025 or 2026. That’s your target. Now your job isn’t “read more,” it’s “find ONE book that gives me an edge on this.” That’s goal-based reading.
