Third world living conditions in the remote villages of Cambodia are some of the worst in the world; unsafe, unsanitary and unsure. As a Cambodian charity, Global Village Housing builds and gifts homes to the poorest of the poor - third world housing solutions for families living in poverty. GVH results so far as a Cambodian charity? By Oct 2022 there were 500 homes built and gifted to poor Cambodians by our local, skilled building team for only US$2200 per house so hundreds of Cambodia's poorest people now have a safe place to call home across 10 different provinces and one remote island. With five years of field testing, Global Village Housing homes are an affordable housing solution for the poorest of the poor in developing countries - practical, culturally fitting, relocatable, fully insulated and maintenance-free. As a Cambodian charity, GVH designs homes to withstand harsh weather conditions in developing countries like Cambodia. They include internal cladding and cross ventilation to shelter families from soaring temperatures and woven inner-wall panels and bamboo floors to protect them from storms and provide cooling relief from extreme heat. GVH homes also provide simple touches that improve families' quality of living in the third world, including solar lighting, phone chargers, rainwater collection systems and rice hull insulation. At Global Village Housing we believe affordable housing is a basic human right for people in developing countries - a safe and secure place to call home. GVH designs functional low-cost robust homes that provide shelter from scorching temperatures and torrential downpours despite poverty in third world conditions. Our homes help to transform the lives of familes struggling to survive in unsanitary conditions, intense climates and extreme poverty.
GVH houses fit in with local traditions and third world environment challenges, and use strong materials that are readily available locally and build on stilts to protect against flooding and germ-laden mud. Raising the home provides two undercovered areas - the sleeping area and space underneath for parking, workshops, cooking or general living. The key feature of the GVH design allows the house to be relocated once erected – a big problem as many people battle unstable conditions and frequent natural disasters, so ‘land grabbing’ and displacement is common in the third world. The GVH housing model is designed to be also used in other countries and for disaster relief housing as it can be exported out of Cambodia. Global Village Housing manages the entire process for every home to be built and gifted - from our small dedicated GVH team finding the families most in need through to our local, skilled builders creating homes in our factory.
