This charade has been going on for long enough. It's laughable how major institutions and generally well respected "intellectuals" all credulously repeat the same fundamentally flawed thinking without ever being called on it.

In summation:

1. Reproductive success does not require individual survival. Enlightened or otherwise.
2. Humans are defined within the parameters set by their biology.
3. Morality is only universal in the sense that it is subject to selective pressure.
4. Through observation of what strategies generates success, we can determine how to act.
5. Ethics does not exist independently of human biology, human biology is the result of natural selection.
6. It's through interaction with the environment that "good" traits are seperated from "bad" traits. Nothing can truly be said to be "good" in isolation.

This effectively closes the book on meta-ethics as a whole and clears an awful lot of rubbish from the philosophical domain of normative ethics.
