🧧 Lord Patten wishes you a peaceful and happy Lunar New Year 🐎

Lord Patten of Barnes, Patron of Hong Kong Watch and the last Governor of Hong Kong, has recorded this video message to mark Lunar New Year:

“I’m sitting at home on a Sunday in late January on what is a very bright but cold day, and I just wanted, on behalf of Hong Kong Watch, to wish you all a very happy Chinese Lunar New Year.

I’m thinking of all those of you in Hong Kong, others of course in mainland China, and also thinking of all those Chinese exiles from Hong Kong, all those Hong Kong citizens who are now in Britain and Canada and Australia and elsewhere, and doing so much to help the countries that they’re now happily living in.

They are for a wrench of having to leave Hong Kong, but I really hope that this is a happy new year for all of us, and that more and more people in Hong Kong – in Hong Kong itself and outside – are able to look forward to a period when they can bring up their children in freedom, which is, I think, what everybody wants.

So, I hope it’s going to be a peaceful and a happy new year for all of you, and one day I hope I’ll be able to come back and see you in Hong Kong again.”

香港監察贊助人、前港督彭定康勳爵（Lord Patten of Barnes）拍片向大家拜年：

「現在是一月下旬某個星期日，陽光明媚但寒冷，我坐在家中，謹代表香港監察恭祝大家農曆新年快樂。

我記掛所有身處香港的人，當然還有身處中國大陸的人，也牽掛所有逃難到香港的中國人，以及現居英國、加拿大、澳洲及其他地方的香港人，他們對現時安居的國家貢獻良多。

他們帶着痛苦被迫離開香港，但我衷心祝願大家新一年開心快樂，愈來愈多香港人——不論是身在香港還是海外——能夠迎接得以在自由環境中養育孩子的時期，而我認為這是眾人的希望。

祝願大家新年平安快樂，盼望終有一日，我能重回香港，與各位再見。」
