Höfner Vintage: 4560 (1961 - 70)

Hofner Model 4560 Thinline Archtop

A mid-range thinline, based on a combination of the then current 455 and discontinued 456 model archtops and retaining the rather nice old-fashioned features of the early Hofner archtops such as the three-piece pearloid/tortoishell headstock fascia, the strip fret markers, and the trapezium tailpiece. Unfortunately, the headstock was changed to a plastic "Treble Clef" fascia for the last year or so of the models life.

As with the 456 full-bodied archtop, the 4560 was provided with a nicely-flamed laminated maple back & sides and a laminated maple body top. Binding & purfling was provided to the top and back edges of the body, with thin binding to the soundholes. The (usually) 3-piece neck was also bound, with a rosewood fingerboard. Usually a tobacco sunburst finish was provided, but red sunbursts are not un-common.

Both single and double pickup options were available, together with Hofner's own vibrato tailpiece if required. The pickups fitted seem to have been exclusively Hofner's Type 510 (Diamond Logo) single coil units.

The 4560 was removed from the Hofner price lists during 1970. Presumably, it was too similar to the ongoing 4570 model, which seems itself to have been "dumbed-down" somewhat around that time.
