In the United States, General Motors (GM) has reported that its electric vehicles have become "variable profit positive" for the first time, meaning the revenue from EV sales now exceeds the fixed manufacturing costs. This milestone was driven by an 85% increase in Chevy Equinox EV sales and record sales for the GMC Hummer EV in the fourth quarter of 2024. In 2024, GM produced approximately 189,000 EVs in North America and aims to increase this number to 300,000 in 2025. Despite these advancements, GM's EV division is not yet fully profitable, as it continues to face high costs and potential challenges from anticipated policy changes, such as the elimination of EV incentives by the Trump administration.
