Political Art and Activism: Heritage of Community Art (Group Zemlja 1929 - 1935) and Contemporary Practices

In this lecture, we will outline the context of the exhibition 'Art in the Community: Redefining Heritage of the Association of Artists Zemlja', an exhibition presented at Pallas Projects but unable to open to the public in October 2020.

Maja Flajsig will talk about group Zemlja and their place in the history of art, as well as the key role of Krsto Hegedušić (founder of Zemlja group) in modern development of art pedagogy for art students and naive artists.
Josip Zanki will talk about the political context of artistic activities of Group Zemlja in Yugoslavia and their repercussions that determined the direction of artistic development until today.
