The most common question I get about these x79 motherboards is 'What is the best CPU to use?'

But first... What am I drinking???

I've got the Vanilla Oatis Oatmeal Stout from Ninkasi (Eugene, OR). A delicious and creamy dark beer, but not too big to enjoy at only 7.0%. Perfect for transitioning from Summer into Fall.

Here is today's Chinese x79 Motherboard: http://amzn.to/2hEx542

Today we'll be taking a look at four CPU options for these Chinese x79 motherboards. We've got the E5-2643 3.3GHz 4C/8T, the E5-2650 2.0GHz 8C/16T, the E5-2667 2.9GHz 6C/12T, and the tried and true E5-2670 2.6GHz 8C/16T.

In the video, I listed turbo clock speeds that are lower than Intel's product page for each of these chips. The number I gave was the max turbo speed across ALL CORES. Intel lists the max turbo for single threaded tasks. Most benchmarks I ran today take advantage of every thread present, so that's the number I listed.

I did not test overclockable chips in this roundup. While these boards are technically capable of it, I'm not sure I trust them. I've had issues with power delivery to the USB controllers on one of these boards. Couple that with sketchy (or missing) heatsinks on the power delivery, and I'm not sure how far I want to push a chip here.

So, do these workstation and server Xeon CPUs hold up in modern benchmarks and games? Watch the benchmarks and find out for yourself.
