Unboxing: Hohner Super 64X Performance

I hope you enjoy this video of me unboxing this brand new Hohner Super 64X Performance harmonica and playing my first notes on it. It is one of Hohner's newest models for the chromatic harmonica line and it is a revision of their old black and gold Super 64X. I had the opportunity to try this harmonica out at SPAH in 2018. Both the new Super 64 and 64x really struck me as improvements on these classics and that's my honest opinion. Thankfully, Hohner has also continued to sell parts for the older version and has kept the workhorse 280C (the 64) in production for those that are die-hard for the classic models. :)

I think the full length thicker reed plates make the tone and response more even in the middle octaves, though it wasn't too noticeable when the reed plates switched on the older version. This means that extra rich tone and better projection carries on up higher. Because the reed tolerances are much tighter from the factory, tone is reminiscent of an embossed chromatic harmonica but has more even more richness in tone, especially in the lower two octaves, from the double thick reed plates.

* I should mention that as of January 2021, I am now an official Hohner endorsee. (Yay! It's a dream come true!!) However, this harmonica has really impressed me with the tuning, sound, construction, and reliability straight out of the box! I think it is an improvement of the old Super 64X and is an excellent harmonica that I feel comfortable recommending to others.
