Distillery West was an iconic all-ages club in Solana Beach, California, active in the early–mid 1980s, just west of I-5 and steps from the ocean. It became a gathering point for the San Diego surf-mod scene—sharp-dressed kids blending British mod style with Southern California surf culture. Think scooters and boards, slim jackets, parkas, Fred Perry polos, desert boots, and a soundtrack that moved easily between ska, soul, punk, and new wave. For a brief moment, Distillery West captured a uniquely coastal version of mod culture—sun-bleached, rebellious, and unmistakably San Diego.
