Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is located almost 40 km from the city of Jamshedpur in the state of Jharkhand. Inaugurated in 1975 by Sanjay Gandhi. Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for its forest tourism, but to the residents, it is more familiar because of its wild resident elephants. 'Dalma Haathi' or the 'Elephants of Dalma' is a known and quite fearful term in the Jamshedpur-Purulia region. The 193 sq km forest of Dalma has many tall wild species of trees like sal, gamhar, mahua, semal and some shorter ones like Jamun, Dhaura, Kendu as well.
Other than the Asiatic Elephant for which it is famous, you can also spot barking deer, porcupines, wild boar, giant squirrel, mongooses and sloth bears. Leopards are said to be present but hard to have a glimpse. Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary offers excellent bird watching experience.

Tips For Visiting Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary:-
1. Carry packed food and water with you as there aren't many eateries in the forest region.
2.Do not enter into deep forest without local guide.

Makulakocha Forest Rest House is one of the best place to stay at Dalma. I just love this place. It is Very cheap . Food quality is very good. Service is awesome. You can visit deer park just beside this resort. Also you can find three little deer inside the resort. At the entrance you may meet with Elephant. Very good place, neat and clean.
