Video description:
I wanted to do a deep dive on the Erase Head mod on the EF-X3. As noted in this video, the Erase Head mod does not come standard on the EF-X3. The mod is installed by the Echo Fix team in Australia. The Erase Head Mod allows you to turn off the erase head which puts it in overdub looping mode. It loops at around 9 seconds at the fastest speed and around 35 seconds at the slowest speed. At that point the unit continues to record and overdub new sounds over old sounds. Because the record head is always recording, each loop becomes a bit quieter on each pass. Turning up the feedback can keep the loop level the same, or much louder on each pass, but it also is stacking delay over delay on each loop. If you have a Record Head mod as well, you can turn off the record head after creating a loop, and the recording won't degrade on each pass. A combo of the Erase Head mod and Record Head mod will allow you to loop a recording indefinitely. After you create a loop with the Erase Head off, and the tape is looping, turn the Record Head off, you'll find that you can still send sound in through the reverb, and chorus. I didn't know this previously, as I only had the Erase Head Off mod. I recently upgraded and now have both the Erase Head Off Mod and the Record Head Off mod.

Gear used:
