Alansa: African Star Fruit

The African Star fruit is indigenous to West Africa, it is known as alansa or adesaa in Ghana, depending on the ethnic group. In Ghana, alansa trees can be found in the Eastern region, mainly between the Mamfe Akuapem and Kwamoso areas. The fruit is rich in vitamin C, and has a low fat content. It is a natural antioxidant, which protects against the effects of free radicals. Meet the farmer, Mr. Yaw, who cultivates these indigenous trees.
