Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh recently visited Eye7 Eye Hospitals for her ICL follow-up check-up after undergoing the Staar ICL procedure for vision correction. In an engaging conversation with Dr. Rahil Chaudhary, she opened up about her experience and the freedom she now enjoys after getting rid of glasses and contact lenses.
Rakul had a very high power and wore contact lenses for over 6–7 years, especially during shoots. However, her work in challenging environments — from dusty deserts to glycerine-induced emotional scenes — made contacts uncomfortable and unreliable. LASIK wasn’t suitable due to her thin corneas, so she was recommended ICL, a safer alternative for high powers.
Describing the procedure as “very, very comfortable,” Rakul said it was the best decision of her life. The next morning after surgery, she instinctively reached for her glasses — only to realize she didn’t need them anymore. “It was a jaadu moment,” she said with a smile.
She calls the decision to undergo ICL “the best decision of her life.” The surgery took only 30 minutes with numbing drops, and the very next morning, she could see clearly without her glasses — a magical moment she vividly recalls.
Dr. Rahil explains that Staar ICL is US FDA-approved, used globally for over 30 years, with more than 3 million implants, and is especially beneficial for people with high prescriptions or unsuitable corneas. A major advantage is that ICL is reversible and allows LASIK enhancement later if minor power changes occur, which often happens in women due to pregnancy or hormonal fluctuations.
Rakul resumed shooting just a week after the procedure. Her recovery included minimal restrictions — avoiding screen time for 24 hours and maintaining eye hygiene. She now enjoys swimming, beach vacations, and everyday life without visual aids.
Rakul now enjoys swimming in saltwater, outdoor activities, and a glasses-free lifestyle — something she believes many youngsters can benefit from if guided correctly.
