Jim Henson spent his life trying to prove that puppets weren’t just for children, and he even had a part in the first season of Saturday Night Live. Sadly, his “Land of Gorch” skits did not blend well with the show at all, but they did catch the attention of Brian Froud, which led to Froud and Henson creating The Dark Crystal. No one quite knew what to make of the film when it first came out, but like pretty much every Henson project, it has a devoted fan base today.
