Описание к видео 1955 CHEVY CAMEO PICKUP TRUCK - NEW CAR - LIKE LOOKS

In the somewhat elliptical history of pickup trucks, 1955 marks the apogee in relation to the history of their counterparts, the passenger car. The two started out in nearly the same orbit - sharing front sheetmetal, chassis and interiors - yet their divergence in the 1930's and 1940's made the pickup seem nearly Plutonian in comparison. While manufacturers stressed comfort, luxury and style in cars, only utility mattered in the pickup. Style took a distant second - or perhaps third or fourth - while comfort and luxury mattered about as much as a screen door on the space shuttle. Whether for blame or praise, we can credit the Chevrolet Cameo for turning that trajectory around. Other manufacturers pitched roomy cabs, updated styling and multi-tone paint schemes as early as 1949, but Chevrolet made it finally fashionable to motor up to the country club in a Cameo. The slab-sided bed would remain, but with a chrome-edged one-inch gap between cab and bed. Bowtie bean counters didn't like the idea of an entirely new set of stampings for the bed either, so Chevrolet turned to Molded Fiber Glass of Ashtabula, Ohio-the same company that produced Corvette bodies-and asked for fiberglass panels that would attach to the existing narrow bed and tailgate, creating a whole new look for the truck with relatively little expense. Taillamps that approximated 1954 Chevrolet passenger car units capped the new bedsides, and a full-width chrome and fiberglass rear bumper gave the pickup a dressy look never before seen on a workhorse. Standard chrome bumpers, wheelcovers cribbed from the Bel Air assembly line, an optional radio and rare optional power steering helped the pickup appeal to car buyers. Engine selection ranged from the standard 123hp, 235.5 cubic inch straight-six to the new-for-1955 145hp, 265 cubic inch overhead-valve small-block V-8. The 283 cubic inch V-8 became available in 1957 through special order and as a regular option in 1958. In 1955, $1,400 bought the regular half-ton, while $1,835 bought the Cameo. The new pickup was available in 1955 only in Bombay Ivory, with the bed interior and highlights painted Commercial Red. More than 5,200 of the pickups sold that year. The updated car-like pickup truck revolutionize the pickup and today, pickup trucks dominate the consumer market with standard work vehicles to luxurious family yachts. Thanks for viewing.
