On June 09, 2024, after a three week holiday at home, I set off for Aizawl, Mizoram (332 kms away). It was my to be my 5th such journey in the past 12 months. This time I wanted to make a comprehensive record of the journey for posterity so I borrowed my friend’s device (His YouTube channel is @tinthangvlog6289).

The road is mostly good for the first 3 hours (only 10-20% bad) till New Kangkap. And since it was my first time recording, I was not aware of the raindrops on the lens. And I didn’t turn on the “reduce wind noise” feature. Please bear with those as they come and go.

Time stamps:
00:00:01: Saying goodbye till we meet again.
00:00:38: Left under heavy rain.
00:01:43: From Mata
00:04:30: Panglian, no rain here yet.
00:05:12: Unpaved stretch, slight climb before Haijang

00:08:50: Singngat. The village is quiet as it is a Sunday.
00:10:55: At Singngat, the road branches into two. The straight one (Teddim Road) goes to Myanmar, the one on the right (Guite Road) goes to Mizoram
00:11:23: Leaving Singngat. The roads are good till Suangdoh
00:12:53: Not the first time I have encountered mist around here

Suangdoh to New Kangkap: 00:23:31 to 00:33:00 (26kms. 40 mins approx)

After New Kangkap, the road till Tuivai Bridge (boundary to Mizoram) is mostly bad (80:20 maybe).
00:34:01: Bad stretch starts
00:35:33: Thuangtam. 82.4kms
00:35:56: Approaching the infamously narrow road at Mualnuam
00:36:30: THE NARROWEST POINT with a cliff on the other side.
00:37:34: Mualnuam. 92kms.
00:38:46: Songtal. 101kms.
00:39:15: First challenge of the journey.
00:40:44: The old, narrow road. A section not yet touched by the highway developers.
00:42:52: One of the most picturesque stretches this side of the border.
00:47:16: Jungle road under the rain few kms before Sinzawl
00:47:54: Sinzawl. 134kms. 4hrs 30mins approx.

New Kangkap to Sinzawl: 00:33:00 to 00:47:54 (57.3kms. 2 hrs approx)

00:56:31: Very good stretch till Khawkawn.
01:00:14: Khawkawn. 161kms.
01:02:00: The rain makes unfinished/unpaved sections of the highway much much worse
01:04:43: Good, dream stretch till Khawdungsei
01:06:38: Approaching Khawdungsei. 168kms. 6 hrs approx
01:07:17: Khawdungsei stop for food and rest.
01:07:34: Dream stretch from Khawdungsei to Ngopa (17 kms. 30 mins approx between the two)
01:10:28: Ngopa Tea Farm
01:10:57: Ngopa. 185 kms. 6hrs 30mins approx
01:13:45: Entering the WORST STRETCH of the journey.

The worst section of the journey is between Ngopa and Saitual, a distance of 76 kms but it takes approx 3 hrs 30 mins, a painful 23kms/hr.

01:22:02: Saitual. 262 kms. 10 hrs approx. What a sight for a weary traveller. From Saitual to Aizawl, the 2 hour ride is amazing.

01:22:44: Last leg of the journey. This stretch is a reward after the nightmare between Ngopa to Saitual.
01:25:08: Reached Aizawl. 332 kms from home. 11 hrs as per Google map but I took 12 hours. I left home at 7AM. At around 7PM, I rode into Thuampui (Where the Aizawl-Lamka Sumo Counters are located).
01:27:03: Tlangnuam. My locality.
01:27:40: Destination reached safely. Thank God.

PS:
So many more edits I want to do, correct mistakes here and there but I’ve spent long enough on this version. Though I can ride a motorcycle for 12 hours straight, I do not have the skill, strength or patience for editing videos for a few hours.

Hope you enjoyed the video. If not, at least I hope it was helpful.

Thanks!
