Jeff Bezos announced that he will fly into space on the Blue Origin spacecraft in late July. The flight, which is scheduled for July 20, comes just two weeks after Bezos steps down as CEO of Amazon, the e-commerce company he founded in 1994. Bezos, now the world's second-richest person, would be the first of the "space billionaires"—entrepreneurs who fund space industry innovations—to personally visit outer space. But Bezos isn't the first billionaire astronaut, and he's far from the last.

Due to ongoing setbacks, Bezos is on track to become the first “space billionaire” to reach outer space, surpassing Branson.

However, with a turn of events Branson has announced he will be traveling to space Sunday July 11, 2021. 9 days before Bezos.

Branson will be a passenger on VSS Unity Galactic's third rocket-powered test flight, which CEO Michael Colglazier previously told investors would take place in March of this year. The first of those flights was completed in May, and Branson's flight, the third in the VSS Unity Galactic test flight series, is set to take place later this year. The flights take passengers to about 55 miles above the Earth's surface, which is defined as spaceflight by the FAA. Following the completion of the series of test flights, the company's commercial service will go live.
