Protostars are Pre-main-sequence stars. They are powered by gravity and not fusion. These objects are what all stars do at their birth before planetary formation. Protostars are embryonic stars. They are stars before they are stars. This is part of my intro Astronomy class taught at Willam Paterson University and CUNY Hunter.
