Note: Comments section is essential part of WordPress blog. Bloggers loves to see a perfect list of comments posted on his article. Because it is very important to know visitors want to interact with you, and they can add a value (content) to your article.

However, if comments are not done correct, it's too difficult to read and follow them.

Next, the comment spam can really get troublesome and may also corrupt the reputation of your WordPress blog that took months or years to create. Furthermore the comments posted on any WP post get indexed by the SE (Search Engines) like Google, Yahoo!, Bing and other. That's why comments quality does matter.

My recommendation is to enable comments moderation for each and every users including registered. WordPress platform does provide you an option
to send new messages in to moderating

I would suggest you enable comment moderation for everyone including registered users. WordPress does give you an option to send new messages into moderating level that satisfy some certain conditions like from guest visitors or comments that have links, before it is made live.

Keep in mind - Blacklisting common used words or IP address is just a waste of your time because the spammers will not rely on one IP address and by misspelling they can get through the word filter.
