#Valued-based_Character__Education #Iqdaar_Kirdaar_Taleem #Tabiah_schooling
This video is about a discussion on Valued-based Education. Value-based education, Character Education or Tarbiah schools are buzz words nowadays in Muslim Societies. In Pakistan, it is said, generally, that education is there but there is no tarbiat. This discussion was made in this Pakistani context. Here, Mr. Asim Nadeem – an educationist, a social worker, having more than 22 years of experience youth development – shared his views about definition of values and valued-based education. He told that values are parameters with the help of which persons take different decisions of their life. In other words, values are our preferences that enables us to make some critical decisions of our lives. To define and explain values, he gave the examples of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani/ Gilani and Abdul Sattar Edhi. He discussed that shaikh Jilani/Gilani made an important decision of his life on the basis of a value that is Truthfulness. He told that Edhi sacrificed his life for the cause of humanity since he preferred humanity over earning money. He also named some other values like honesty and compassionate. He also discussed that how, in general, valued based education is implemented through: first, hiring the services of teachers who can act as role model; second, while teaching languages, include such literature that contains characters who possess the targeted values’ third, teaching about various heroes in social studies, and, by designing thematic based co-curricular activities. He added, that the students take teachers, characters of literature and heroes as their role model, they try to be like these role models, and, as a result, they inculcate in their lives all of the values that are supposed to be learnt and practiced. It is also discussed that when one makes some decisions and actions according to some particular value, these actions become one’s identity. This identity is called as character. In other words, character is nothing but a value possessed is in repeated actions. It is discussed that valued-based education and character education is almost the same process. In character, first, some moral values are inculcated to the students, and, then are motivated to practice these values in their lives. It is also discussed that, in Arabic, the process of inculcation of values and then provision of motivation is called Tarbiah. In Urdu, the word tarbiah is called Tarbiat. Since tarbiah/ tarbiat is a process of inculcating values and developing characters; therefore, tarbiah/ tarbiat is the same as of valued-based education or character education.
