This is Docena 3, the 1968 album by Los Shain’s, released on Odeon Del Peru (ELD-1680). Another rare Peruvian LP that took me a long time to track down in clean condition. Los Shain’s were one of the earliest Peruvian garage and psych-influenced bands, blending raw fuzz guitar, Farfisa organ, surf energy, and Latin rhythm into a sound that helped shape Lima’s underground rock scene.

Docena 3 captures the band in transition - moving from their surf-rock and beat roots into heavier garage territory. You can hear that late 60s Lima energy all over this record. Nuggets-style riffs, catchy hooks, fuzzed-out passages, and that gritty Peruvian bite that makes these regional albums so fun to play. More garage than psych, but there are moments where they drift into something wilder and more unhinged. This was their fourth and final album before they called it quits, and you can hear that late-era energy in the songs.

Their guitarist, Pico Ego-Aguirre, would later join Traffic Sound and eventually help launch Pax a few years later.

One of my favorite track on this one is “Algo Divertido Y Loco.” It is a wild, off-kilter garage cut with exactly the right amount of fuzz and chaos. There is a playful, unpredictable energy to it that feels like early psych-era Beatles filtered through a gritty Peruvian lens.
