London will be plunged into the strictest Tier 3 coronavirus measures on Wednesday, the Health Secretary will announce this afternoon.

Matt Hancock is set to announce the move in the Commons on Monday afternoon, according to MPs who were briefed by him. MPs said the decision will also affect parts of Essex and Hertfordshire.

Tier 3 restrictions will see pubs and restaurants forced to close across the capital during what is usually their busiest time of the year.

The Secretary of State also said the next review would be on Wednesday December 23, according to MPs. They said it would be “weekly” rather than every 14 days, as previously committed to by the Government.
