Dr. K Ananthasivan is currently the Director of the Reprocessing group at Indira Gandhi center for atomic research, Kalpakkam. He obtained his MSc in chemistry from Bharathiyar University and in Metallurgy from IISC Bangalore, Ph.D. from the University of Madras, post-doc from Purdue University in the U.S. He established reprocessing facilities for carbide and oxide fuels discharged from fast reactors. He established the facility for the production of enriched elemental boron. He experimented on high-temperature thermodynamics, obtained carbon potential in the carbide system, and discovered two new techniques to measure melting points.
He has authored many international journals. With this enormous knowledge and work experience, he achieved many awards.

This talk aims to provide information about some interesting aspects of the atomic energy programme in India. With a brief introduction to the legendary nuclear scientist Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, a visionary who founded the Department of Atomic Energy in India, it would highlight the most prominent research areas in which research is being pursued in DAE, particularly in IGCAR.
