0:00 What is the future of data modeling? I think data modeling is evolving the same way companies are evolving. It requires more agility, more frequent changes. Actually, it must constantly adapt to the environment evolutions. These structures that used to be extremely rigid have to find a new way of being tweaked overnight because remember, what we want at the end of the day, is the empowerment of the analyst team to be super efficient and straight to the point when they come to their analysis.

0:35 If the data structures doesn’t support the way they want to look at data, they’re going to spend a lot of time replenishing the data, repositioning everything to get to the right answer.

I think, like in many disciplines around data, the notion of building castles is going away. We need to be able to create this fast moving environment that can constantly be tweaked by a team formed by IT and the users. Of course, it’s not about doing everything and anything and create multiple versions of truth around the company.

1:10 It’s really about finding that right balance between, “Hey. We need some structure in way we harness our raw material, which is data, but at the same time we need to present it in a super agile way so that our users can be efficient about it.”

1:22 This is probably where the notion of AGILE data governance comes in because we need a very adaptive governance to all these flows, to all this data, that makes sure that as models constantly adapt to business needs there’s still a continuum and a solid base that keep it right.
