Today on our 2013 Toyota Rav4, we will be installing the tow ready T-1 vehicle wiring harness with four poll flat connector part number 118578. To begin our install we will first open up the rear cargo or hatch and then remove the rear cargo liner and spare tire cover. Next we will remove the pocket panel on each side. Next we will remove the drivers side pocket and set it aside for reinstallation later. Now with those out of the way we are ready to go ahead and remove the rear threshold. To remove the rear threshold we will simply get underneath of it and gently pry up on the threshold until it releases the fasteners underneath.

Once they are released and we can pull the threshold up and out of the way we will set it aside for reinstallation later. Next we will remove the fasteners that secure the quarter panels. There are multiple fasteners for each quarter panel that will need to be removed including the two cargo hooks on each side. Next we will need to remove the forward center section tray. To do this we will remove the four screws that secure it and then we will go ahead and remove the carpeting cover.

We will use our interior trim panel tool to pop the fasteners free that underneath. Now we can go ahead and start pulling back on the quarter panel here on the passenger side. With the lower section pulled back and out of the way, we can see the wiring as it comes out of the passenger side taillight assembly. We will then go up behind the upper quarter panel which we will go ahead and remove next. Now with the quarter panel pulled back we can see the wiring connector where the taillight wiring harness plugs into the main wiring harness.

To disconnect these two sockets we will press on the locking tab, pull on the manufacturing wire to releasing it from the socket. Next we will take the green wire connector from our tow ready wiring harness and plug in the line with the manufacturers wiring. Once theyre plugged in we will go ahead and secure the wiring with the zip tie provided with our install kit and start routing the wire down to the bottom of the quarter panel and ultimately over to the threshold. We will secure the wiring as necessary and cut off the excessive zip ties and clean up our installed look. Now we can go ahead and reattach the passenger side quarter panels.

Next we will go ahead and repeat the same process of removing the drivers interior quarter panels. Once we do that we can gain access to the drivers side taillight wiring. Press on the locking tab and remove the wiring connector from the socket. Here we will take the yellow wire connector from our tow ready harness and plug in line with the manufacturers wiring. Once we do that we will go ahead and secure the wire with a zip tie that and start routing it down to the lower inner quarter panel area. Next we will start routing the extra length power wire that was provided with the install kit that will connect to the black power wire coming from our converter box. This will ultimately be run to the battery. To run our power wire to the battery we will be going underneath the vehicle so we will need access through one of the manufacturers grommets to get the power wire through. Located here behind the inner panel is a grommet we can use. We will simply remove the grommet, drill it out large enough to run our power wire through. Then once we have it drilled out we can go ahead and take the power wire, run it through the grommet hole and then install the grommet on to the power wire, reinstalling it into its position. Next we will take the converter box and the power wire, strip back the power wire and add the yellow butt connector. Then we will take the power wire we just ran through the manufacturers grommet and secure it to the yellow butt connector. Once we have this connection point secured we will go ahead and wrap it up with some black electrical tape to help keep out the dust, dirt, debris and moisture. Next we will go ahead and mount our converter box. To mount the converter box we will use a two way adhesive provided with the install kit. We will take the two way adhesive and secure it to the converter box. Then we will remove the other side of the two way adhesive and secure it here behind the quarter panel. When mounting the converter box you are looking for a clean, flat surface to adhere to. Now with the converter box mounted we will go ahead and take the white wire with a preattached ring terminal which will be the ground for our new converter box. To secure it we will use a self tapping screw to go into the sheet metal of the vehicle for our ground. Note: Its highly recomme
