Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim was a speaker at the Fubon Forum on Sustainable Future, organized by Fubon Group and National Taiwan University’s Risk Society and Policy Research Center. Hsiao stressed that the transition to a sustainable future does not solely depend on the semiconductor and telecommunications sectors. She said that traditional industry could also join in the transition by investing in lowering carbon emissions, building up the electricity grid, and developing smart applications. She said this would help Taiwan become a global provider of sustainability solutions and break into the green markets of the future.

The Fubon Forum on Sustainable Future is in its ninth edition. This year, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim was invited to speak at the event, which focused on how industry and finance can work together to transition toward sustainability. During his inauguration speech on May 20, President Lai Ching-te reiterated his commitment to a second energy transition in Taiwan. The main focus will be on diversifying green energy, building a smart grid, and enhancing the grid’s resilience. With the aim of maintaining a stable power supply, we will continue to work toward boosting our energy autonomy while lowering our carbon emissions. We also aim to generate enough green energy to meet the demand from green industrial supply chains.

Hsiao spoke on the Lai administration’s sustainability goals. She also mentioned Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

During his keynote, Jensen Huang presented concepts I had never imagined. For example, using artificial intelligence to create a digital model of our planet that can offer us a better grasp of future trends in environmental change. At the same time, by introducing the relevant technologies and policies, we can alleviate the impact that climate change is having on human life.

Hsiao said that the government will continue to develop green financing and its legislation, so that businesses can launch a more diverse range of products and services, while ensuring cybersecurity. She said the government will also work with the financial sector, to support a green transition that also promotes growth for small and medium enterprises.
