When you hear the opening phrases of Mergui's "Cry," you know you're dealing with a real deal vocalist. The way he stretches a single syllable, the subtle punch that quickly reels you into the performance - skills, for sure. The Tel Aviv native, who made a sizable dent in the fifth season of the Israeli competition show 'Rising Star,' has honed his chops during his 24 years. You don't get to open for Bruno Mars and Maroon 5 without such expertise, so let's just say Mergui has been refining his talents for a while now. From his 2019 'Ma Iyea' to 2022's 'Dark Side of the Rainbow,' his regional audience has grown. Now he's an LA resident with a curse-flecked romantic indictment called "Sucks To Know You" and a fully English EP entitled 'Shadows Of Blue.' Its five songs are "about the last three years of my life," Mergui has said. "I could say it's a breakup story, but it's really about me finding myself." That's certainly what you hear in "On My Way Up," the song he performed when he hit our LA studio. Strong stuff, don't miss.
