In this episode of Kernels, we review Finley, a horror comedy short film by J. Zachary Thurman. Finley is a ventriloquist dummy who tries to kill his new owners, but fails miserably.

The film follows the hilarious and gruesome misadventures of Chris, Alexandra, and Jennifer, who find Finley in the attic of their new house and decide to keep him as a joke. Finley attempts to murder them with various methods, such as rat poison, a crossbow, and a knife, but only ends up hurting himself or the furniture. When two burglars break into the house, Finley gets a chance to prove himself as a killer doll and saves the day. The film ends with Finley celebrating Christmas with his reluctant family. We discuss the film’s humor, horror, and puppetry, as well as the director’s influences and achievements.

Finley is a fun and twisted short film that will make you laugh and scream at the same time.
