Dr. Ashish Rawandale-Patil from Dhule, India, performed a remarkable surgery that amazed the world. In December 2009, he removed an astonishing 172,155 kidney stones from a single patient’s left kidney—a feat so extraordinary that it earned a place in the Guinness World Records.

The patient, Dhanraj Wadile, had been suffering from severe lower abdominal pain for months. Tests revealed a rare Pelvi-Ureteric Junction obstruction in his left kidney, which caused an unusually massive build-up of stones.

The surgery lasted around four hours and combined open surgery with flexible endoscopy. The stones varied in size—from just 1 mm to 2.5 cm—and were made up of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate.

After the operation, Dr. Rawandale-Patil and his team carefully counted each stone. To ensure accuracy, they even brought in a diamond expert to help verify the total. The counting process took three hours a day for a month before the final number was confirmed for the record books.

This achievement not only demonstrated outstanding surgical skill and precision but also highlighted the dedication, teamwork, and patience needed to accomplish such a medical milestone—shaking the world with a truly unforgettable achievement.
