Aspirants for Banking Jobs must know the minimum age for opening a bank account of a person.
1. As such there is no minimum age criterion for opening a bank account. A bank account can be opened for a minor of any age.
(A person who has not attained 18 years of age is considered as a minor.)
2. There are two types of minor accounts based on mode of operation:
a. First type of accounts are either jointly or singly operated through the natural or legally appointed guardian.
b. For Minors who have attained the age of 10 years, they can operate their accounts independently, if they so desire.
3. Lastly, its also important to understand that overdraft facility is not available in Minor Accounts.
If you are appearing for an interview at a particular bank, then please also see the names of these accounts. For example, at SBI, these accounts are known as
a. 'Pehla Kadam' : Minor accounts which are operated jointly or singly through the natural or legally appointed guardian.
b. 'Pehli Udaan': Minor accounts which are operated independently.
