The ruins of Bhuj - Aina Mahal

Описание к видео The ruins of Bhuj - Aina Mahal

Who can forget the horrifying 2001 earthquake in Gujarat? The epicentre of the shakeup was Bhuj. The natural disaster had claimed thousands of lives and destroyed lakhs of homes. Even decades later, the remnants of the calamity are still visible across the city.

Aina Mahal is one such architectural beauty which was reduced to shambles in the tragedy. “The palace of mirrors” was commissioned by Kutch ruler Rao Lakhpatji of the Jadeja dynasty in the 18th century. It was constructed with white marble walls and adorned with gold lace and glasses.  Just a look up these walls makes one wonder of the beauty inside its many floors. Only a small portion of the Aina mahal which was least damaged was restored and it houses the museum, displaying the bed room, music room, court room and other old pieces of arts, paintings, arms, palanquin etc. More about this museum can be seen in the next video.

But this small presentation here shows the ruins of the architectural beauty that bhuj ones boasted of.
